Our
IceCOLD® technology was developed in 1986 to remove what
ASHRAE (American Society of Heating and Air Conditioning Engineers)
calls “compressor oil fouling” from the inner walls
of air conditioning refrigeration tubing. The US DOE (Department
of Energy) called this original technology “PROA”
(Polarized Refrigerant Oil Additive). Please see the ASHRAE
“oil fouling” paper with footnotes.
During normal operation, AC / refrigeration systems circulate
1/2% to 8% of their compressor oil with the refrigerant. This
compressor oil gradually forms an “oil fouling”
layer of compressor oil on the insides of the refrigeration
tubing which acts as an effective insulator to the heat transfer
that is necessary for the refrigerant to cool the space it
is intended to cool. Our technology removes the “ASHRAE”
compressor oil fouling permanently from the walls of the refrigeration
tubing for the life of the equipment.
This technology was upgraded further to be environmentally
friendly in 1996 and was offered to the Fortune 100 from 1996
to 2001 and in 2002 became available to the general market.
In 2002, the technology was upgraded again to be compatible
with all synthetic compressor oils and to be more aggressive
and environmentally friendly, with state of the art lubricity
agents to extend the life of refrigeration compressors.
Since 2001, US Refrigeration Technologies has completed numerous
installations with an average electricity cost savings of
23%. Many customers have instrumented their own equipment
and calculated the savings themselves. For example, Baylor
Hospital in Dallas shows over a 24% electricity savings after
installation in their laundry facility. Spring Hill Hospital
in Mobile, Alabama shows a 24% electricity savings in their
8 operating rooms. Similar savings are seen at nursing homes,
computer rooms, the 277 room Fairfield Grand Desert Resort,
Flagler School District, large dairy operations walk in coolers
and apartment complexes all with significant electricity cost
savings and higher cooling capacity.
The technology also has been verified by a Certified Thermal
Testing Lab under the auspices of the Federal Oak Ridge National
Laboratory using the ARI (American Refrigeration Institute)
EER (Energy Efficiency Rating) testing that is used to rate
the efficiency of refrigeration equipment. In this test, the
EER of a typical used GE heat pump was raised from 9.0 to
11.3; over 20%.
The NIST (US Federal Government National Institute of Standards
and Technology) completed evaluating the technology in June
2004 and concluded that “The heat transfer data show
that the additive caused an average enhancement of the R134a/POE
heat flux of approximately 73 %”; and “additive
can form a monolayer between the wall and the lubricant/additive
excess layer”
Chillers, AC package units, PTACs, DX systems and walk-in
and mobile refrigeration and freezer units can be treated
with a cost effective payback of about a year and ROI of up
to 600% and higher.
Besides AC / refrigeration electricity cost savings of up
to 23%, savings on annual equipment maintenance and replacement
cost will be over 20% since the equipment is running 20% +
less.
Some customers are concerned mostly with making their space
colder. Such is the case with hospital operating rooms and
computer rooms where cooler temperatures are needed without
adding more expensive AC equipment.
We encourage you to evaluate installation of the technology
throughout your facilities; the electricity and maintenance
operating cost savings will be substantial during the life
of the equipment. Note that we have a money back performance
guarantee of 10% cost savings on AC electrical usage.
Our analysts are available to calculate the costs and associated
savings with installing our technology. We will also provide
a free calculation of your continued electrical expenses;
and recommendations to minimize electricity use and cost without
diminishing service.

We look forward to working with you and your staff to discuss
installing our technology and reducing your AC operating expenses
IceCOLD® virtually eliminates
oil fouling of the heat transfer surfaces of air conditioning
and refrigeration systems thus preventing the customary loss
of 7% efficiency the first year of operation, 5% the second
year and 2% per year the following years (1998 ASHRAE Handbook,
Refrigeration, Chap. 2.9).
After giving this presentation
a careful study you no doubt will agree the potential for measurable
savings are available to you by installing IceCOLD® in
the systems at your facility and thereafter enjoy the following
